School Room

One of my favorite parts of our new house is the school room.  We painted it a bright orange and Bernadette, Clare and I put hand prints on the walls using the paint from the other rooms.

Because we aren’t doing much formal schooling during the summer, it has turned into more of an Arts & Crafts room.  The girls are in there almost every day playing play-doh or coloring.  I am most excited to be able to keep all the school stuff in one place instead of scattered throughout the house.

This picture shows the three windows.  Under the double window is a table Jeremy made.  It is the perfect place for them to play play-doh, paint or do otherwise messier things on.  There is yarn strung from one wall to the wall parallel for clothes-pinning up especially special projects.  I found 6 student desks on Craigslist for $5 each.  We gave 2 to my sister-in-law and put 2 in here (you can see them at the bottom).  I still have 2 more, but I’m not sure what I want to do with them yet.  Currently they are holding the laptops in our bedroom.043

This is an awesome teacher desk I got for FREE!  Jeremy’s aunt knew someone trying to get rid of it, so she spoke for it for us.  It is perfect!  It is super deep, so we put a small bookshelf on top to hold the things I don’t want the girls “exploring”.

This blue dresser is our current game holder.  I tetris-ed in all of our board games and used a label maker to label which drawers hold which games so I will always know where they fit.

Storage!  The cube shelves were given to me by my parents a few years ago.  They are heavy and awkward and had ugly doors on them which we took off.  I am very pleased with how we’ve been able to use them in our school room.  They are currently housing kid games and art supplies, puzzles and some pre-school materials.  The book shelf next to them has curriculum I’m not using this year, and some readers.

Notice the white piece of paper on the wall in between the shelves and the desk?

That’s what happens when you had a 3 year old a glue stick and ask her to go put it in the school room… Self – Portrait by Bernadette, glued to the wall by Clare.
