As a nation, we need to "go green." Not to save the planet, but to save our souls.
I recently read a blog about Green Cleaning and it was on my mind for days after. There is so much buzz out there right now about going green and recycling and all those other "Save the Planet" measures. We are supposed to recycle our trash, have a compost pile, not flush, use cloth diapers, clean with baking soda instead of bleach, ride a bike instead of driving and make a million other lifestyle changes in order to better the earth for generations to come.
For generations to come...funny, isn't it? When will the people who say "Don't drink cow's milk because its loaded with hormones," "Don't eat non organic vegetables. You don't know what chemicals they use to grow them," stop loading their bodies with chemicals and hormones to make their lives more "comfortable"? Wouldn't it be "green" to practice abstinence instead of taking chemicals and hormones? Why are people ready to make changes like recycling or riding their bikes to work, but sexual self control is too hard? They are not willing to risk filling the landfills or leaving a "carbon footprint" but they are willing to risk STDs?
I see good in the green movement. For my family, I want to go green in ways that will simplify our lives and make us more self sufficient. When our chemical cleaners are gone, we plan on mixing up our own. We recycle newspapers. We hope to have a nice garden this year. There is more room to rely on God when you are not relying on corporations to sell you food and cleaners.
We look upon morbidly obese people as having a lack of self control that disgusts us. We need to look upon people who use birth control or have abortions as having a lack of self control that disgusts us. Our nation needs to go morally green. Abstinence needs to become a good word again.

LOVED this post.
ReplyDeleteAnother thought. you mentioned how the phrase 'for generations to come' is used. With all perversions of sexuality in our culture....it will only increase the number of abortions. So, if we are aborting...where are these "generations" going to come from?
You bring up some fabulous points Kati. How sad is it that people are willing to lose their souls, but save a tree. There must be a balance in all things (with the exception of a moral issue such as abortion which is a clear cut issue); being good stewards of money, the earth and really any resource and conveniences God has blessed us with. I think it is bizarre how someone will scold me and be quite firm about throwing away paper instead of recycling it...but if I bring up the abortion issue it becomes a 'freedom of choice' issue or I'm 'imposing my religious beliefs.' How is saving paper an issue that is fro the greater good, but killing a baby isn't?
You got me all riled up; thanks a lot :)
Well said! I agree completely! I wonder about that ALL THE TIME--why it is that the same people preaching everything natural and organic will take the pill which is made up entirely of fake hormones and has nasty effects on natural fertility! It drives me crazy! Why do people want to preserve endangered animals but kill unborn humans? Where are our priorities!?
ReplyDeleteDid you read the article in last week's Register about food vs. sexuality?
