We had an eventful Memorial Day weekend. It began on Friday. Jeremy took the day off and we took the girls to the Children’s Museum. We all had lots of fun as usual, but more importantly, we got the girls good and worn out for our drive to Hastings.
We drove to Hastings to get cleaned up and dressed for my brother-in-law’s wedding rehearsal. Things had gone unbelievably smoothly so far, so we expected something to go wrong.
Sure enough, on our way from Hastings to Lawrence, we were rear-ended. We pulled over and waited what seemed like forever for the police to come and fill out his report. When we saw the officer getting out of his car, Jeremy went to see if he was done. “The bad news is, I lost your license,” the officer told my husband. Jeremy heard “lost your license,” and began to panic a little. The officer proceeded to explain to him that his license had slid down his dash and was out of reach. (This explained what was taking so long.) The officer decided to try using his jimmy tool to reach it. This almost worked, but alas, the license slid down farther. Finally, the officer decided to shake the dickens out of his dash until it slid down far enough to reach it from underneath.
We proceeded towards Lawrence only half an hour late. We called ahead to see if we had missed the whole thing only to find out that the priest was 10 minutes late, so we would still make it for at least part of it.
The rest of the evening went swimmingly and we headed back to Lincoln for a good night’s rest before heading back the next morning for pictures and the wedding.
Once again, we left town on time and even got checked in early at the hotel and changed and cleaned up on time. We left Hastings headed to Lawrence once again. About half way there, our van registered “Distance to Empty: O”. Our Guardian Angels must have pushed us the rest of the way, because we it read O for about 10 miles. We, of course, gassed up as soon as we got to Lawrence and ended up being only a few minutes late.
The rest of the day was beautiful. Bernadette successfully fulfilled her flower girl duties without any tears. The bride and groom are all excited that our girls now have 2 Aunt Beckys (as well as 2 Uncle Jeremys and 2 Uncle Adams).
Here are some pictures from our Lawrence/Hastings weekend.

What beautiful pictures! Bernadette looks so grown up!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same thing - I can't believe how different she looked with her hair up like that.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on surviving all the drama, it looks like it was a beautiful wedding.
