This week, we went to the Staff and Student Christmas party at Villa Marie School (where I used to work and Jeremy now coaches special olympics basketball).
We are always amazed at the generosity that radiates in and around this school. Santa came and the girls each got two books and a stuffed animal. (The sisters usually give the girls a little something, but this was a total surprise.)
Bernadette was so excited to sit on Santa’s lap, even though she pretty much knows that this isn’t the “real” Santa. She went up to get her present and was so excited, she forgot to tell him what she wanted. When she went back the second time, Clare was brave enough to go, too. Clare gave Santa one of her super hugs where she just hugs for the longest time without moving or saying anything. (By the way, Bernadette asked for a jump rope and a telescope, and she is getting neither).
The secretary at the school also gave the girls gifts. This was completely unexpected. We only see her a couple of times a year. She gave the girls stuffed hippos that are so soft.
Each of the students got to pick out a Christmas book from a box full. One of the students picked out a Dora book that she said she was going to give to her little brother. She changed her mind, and gave it to the girls! She said, “My little brother is so spoiled and has lots of toys and books, so they can have this. And, you’re new parents and I know if my brother has nothing to do, he bothers us, so this will help your girls have something to do.” :)
Another student gave our girls candy canes, and another student gave me his. :)
Those kids are amazing and I am so glad that they are still a part of my life.
I can't believe she asked for a jump rope. I was just at target last week and they had jump ropes in the dollar section and I am NOT kidding you I almost bought one for Bernadette, Joseph & Elijah!!! Then I talked myself out of it because I figured they would probably not actually jump rope....but do other things with the ropes that I don't want to think of. ;-)
