Independence

This morning, when only Clare was up with me, I snuck off to the bathroom to get ready for the day.  As I was finishing up, there was a knock at the door.  I open to find a smiling Bernadette.  “I’m getting my own breakfast!  Chips and cheese!”  I follow her into the kitchen and sure enough, she’s gotten herself a plate of chips and heads to the fridge for the cheese.  I watch in disbelief as she proceeds to top her chips with a modest amount of cheese, open the microwave (she’s standing on a stool) and place her plate in.  Astounded by this display of independence coming from the 4 year old who still wants us to feed her help her eat most meals is preparing her own.  I gave in and helped her push the microwave buttons.  She patiently waited, retrieved her breakfast and sat down on the steps to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

**Note:  We’ve never eaten chips and cheese for breakfast.

  2. Oh, my! Is this what apartment living has done to your nutrition standards? Maybe you should move to an acreage :)

  3. HAHAHAAaaa! Tell her that her friend Tala understands. And at least she's not making her "breakfast" at 2 a.m.?!?

  4. That's awesome. Andrew went through a phase with ham & mustard sandwiches where he wanted one for every meal just because he could make it himself! Why not?
