Ornaments

One of the things on my holiday to-do list is to make ornaments for our parents and grandparents and us.  We started this tradition two years ago – Bernadette’s second Christmas.

We made this ornament to look like a bulb ornament.  It was made out of red foam paper.  We decorated them with glitter glue.  The hanging part is ribbon that says “Merry Christmas” and it is all held together with a snowflake brad.

The multiple layers of foam together with the snowflake brad make it a “peek-a-boo” ornament, as our kids call it.

Last year, we made these gingerbread ornaments.

December 027

They are made out of two layers of brown felt.  Again, the hanging part is Christmas ribbon, as is the “Merry Christmas” banner they are holding.  Their “buttons” are leftover snowflake brads from the previous year.  I stitched around them with overdyed floss.

The pictures we put inside were printed from our home computer on cardstock.  They are great keepsakes and we hope to continue the tradition.  Last year, I ran out of the banner ribbon, so I had to wait until the stores came out with Christmas ribbon again to finish them. :)

We have a couple of ideas for this years’ ornament, but we haven’t decided on one yet.  I hope we can come up with something soon so we can get started and hopefully finish all of them before Christmas!

  1. I love those Kati-you're so creative! I'm trying to do ornaments too with the boys' pictures, but we're moving pretty slow and of course they're mostly sticker or foam things. I did find some wooden ornaments that the boys will paint. Hopefully they will turn out okay :-) Maybe we should try to do some together with the kids...oooooorrrrrrr maybe not! ha ha

  2. Those are so cute! We have done ornaments each Christmas as well, though not sure how this year's is going to turn out with us leaving in less than a week!
